About Mattie Washburn

What Mattie Has To Offer

INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAM

At Mattie, we are committed to ensuring that all students receive a challenging academic program in an engaging, nurturing and inclusive environment. We offer a balanced curriculum, which combines hands-on, real life experiences with the foundational skills needed for success.

Our focus is on early literacy with the goal that all students will be fluent readers as they leave first grade. A standards based report card charts the growth that students make in all academic areas and gives parents the knowledge of how their child is doing in school. Reading, writing and math assessments are administered to all students by the classroom teacher three times a year.

ARTS, EVENTS & MORE

Mattie Washburn, in addition to it’s top academics, offers integrated arts education, featuring visual and performing arts, music, and projects as part of it’s regular offerings. Our campus offers a wide variety of play spaces and structures for students to enjoy during recess and lunch, and our multi-purpose room and library offer alternative spaces for students to learn, explore and enjoy. In addition, we have events throughout the year, including a winter holiday concert, a Halloween parade, a patriotic assembly, field day and more to enrich our student’s expereinces and include families and our community.

PARENT PARTICIPATION

Mattie has a very strong partnership with our parents. They actively serve as volunteers in the classroom working one-on-one with students, with small groups, as library helpers, offering computer assistance and working with our gardens. In order to volunteer, verification of COVID vaccination and current TB test is needed.
