WUSD selects Godwin as Assistant Principal at Windsor High School

PRESS RELEASE 

Windsor, Calif.—Windsor Unified School District (WUSD) is pleased to announce that Davon Godwin has been selected as the new assistant principal of Windsor High School (WHS) for the 2024-25 school year. She is taking over from long-time vice principal Grace Curtin, who is retiring at the end of the school year.

Godwin holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and American Literature, with an emphasis of study in Ethnic Literatures from University of California at San Diego. In 1995, while living overseas, she took a teaching position at Colegio Interamericano in Guatemala City, where she fell in love with the profession. She came home to California to take the CBEST and enroll in San Diego State’s teacher credential program. 

She began her U.S. teaching career in January of 1997, ultimately serving in Districts throughout the state, and spending the last 14 years here in Windsor. She has served on Site Councils, Leadership Teams, LCAP Committees, Instructional Leadership Teams, as a Curriculum and Instruction Lead Teacher, Department Chair, AVID Coordinator, WASC Coordinator, and most recently as Teacher on Special Assignment for WUSD. She will complete her Masters in Educational Leadership from Cal State East Bay in December, and has her Preliminary Administrative Services Credential. 

Godwin looks to bring all her experience to the role of assistant principal. “The 14 years I’ve spent here in Windsor have offered me the most rewarding learning opportunities of my career, and I’m thrilled and grateful to return to WHS full-time as assistant principal,” she said. 

“I’m so pleased to have Davon step up to the administrative team here at WHS,” said WHS principal Danielle Buckman. “She’s going to be an awesome addition to our community.”

“I think I’m a good fit and excited to join this admin team, and bring with me a depth of knowledge and experience both in and out of the classroom,” she said.” My hope is to apply what I’ve learned to support our teachers and students.”

“I’m so excited to see what Davon will do with this role,” said Director of HR Pete Sullivan. “Her dedication and breadth of knowledge are simply outstanding, and her deep connections in our WHS community only bolster that knowledge.” 

Godwin sees education as a gateway to future success and is committed to those opportunities being available for all students. “I was born into a family of educators who believe in education as a revolutionary endeavor:  literacy, critical thinking, collaboration, curiosity and access can change a life, uplift a family or community, and improve our world,” Godwin said. “This belief inspires me to work in collaboration with staff and students towards greater equity and justice for all learners.

“My experiences supporting AVID students and programs have given me a deep understanding of college preparation, and this year I’ve taken a deep dive into CTE, CPA, and PLTW pathways,” she continued. “I feel lucky to have insight into how we can expand college and career readiness for all of our graduates.”

In her new role she will be overseeing some changes to WHS in the coming school year. “As we embark on a new era of 9th graders joining our Seminar class instead of a Core, I’m excited to be part of the work that builds greater equity for all of our students. I’ve had the privilege of drafting that course outline and look forward to collaborating with my colleagues to refine that first year Jaguar experience,” Godwin said.

“Davon has been an integral part of our high school for so long, it feels like her taking the next step here is the most natural thing in the world,” said Superintendent Jeremy Decker. “I know she brings a wealth of educational experience, and a genuine love for Windsor High School, to this new role.

“My husband and I are proud parents of two WHS graduates, so we know how transformative our school can be. I’d like to help build systems that ensure that kind of experience for all our students,” Godwin said.
